#WriterCrushWednesday “The Truth About Love”

You know those, “Reading is essential” moments that happen almost daily for some, hourly for others? If not, here are some examples that most of us can relate to:

  • Driving down a road that has a sign that reads “Do not enter.”
  • Placing a container in the microwave that reads “Do not microwave.”

It seems as if books have become the lost treasures of the world, reading and writing have both become a lost art that a lot of people seem to miss but never do anything about. When is the last time you walked into Barnes and Noble; how about the book section of Target, or Walmart? Every time I log onto a social media outlet or turn on basic cable I see commercials or previews/trailers of a new incredible TV show or movie, but never a good book.

Due to the power of the internet and social media, I came across one of the most fascinating books that I have read in awhile. The Truth About Love is an online book written by a young black author named Nichelle-Baldwin Hunt. Hunt flawlessly connects with her audience to describe HER depiction of love touching on themes such as, “death, life, depression, addiction, etc. She does this by creating a love story with plot twists and turns that keep her readers on the edges of their seats. She mentioned that “I want them to be able to use my experiences to deal with their own. I’m giving them all of me and letting them into my world,” allowing the readers to see a side of her that is only revealed to her readers. Hunt uploads her chapters on a weekly basis, if you’re interested in a new, fresh, good read check out her book! (If you don’t have a New Year Resolution and you haven’t read a book recently: broaden your vocabulary, sign out of Netflix, and start reading.)

What is Music?

While partaking in my favorite activity, watching movies, I became inspired to ask the following:

What is music?

If you are reading this and you listen to music please contact me. In the comments, tell me what your DEFINITION of music is. I do not want to read any Webster’s definition, I’m curious to know what our generation considers music. If your passion exceeds the small space in the box feel free to email me at Qloud106ent@gmail.com or you can send me a video! If you can’t write it, send me a voice memo! Include whether you mind your definition being featured or not. I hope to hear from you all soon.

#MCM Mykee Mike

Open your mind for a brief fictitious anecdote.

Thank you.

1:00pm at the Qloud 106 Artist Release and I still felt each cocoon unleashing a new butterfly into my stomach. As I looked out into the crowd I couldn’t identify any faces, really everyone looked like Wii Characters. There were two bright lights in each corner staring me into my soul. My palms were sweating. 6 minutes until showtime. MY SHOE! They were mutts, crossbred Adidas Iniki Boost x Gucci, erotic to the soul and the nerves residing in the soles of your feet.

I knelt down. Bowed my head. Closed my eyes. And then, I whispered, “Make me like Mike”.

The gag is, I wasn’t referring to the great Michael Jordan nor the legendary Michael Jackson, at least not this time. I was referring to Mykee Mike. An up and coming artist from South Carolina, but he lives in Georgia. When I listened to Mykee Mike for the first time I could tell it wasn’t an “Atlanta Vibe”, it was a little R&B and a little rap. When I asked Mykee Mike what he would describe his style as, he mentioned a genre that he calls “B&M” (Bars and Moods).

“Fashion Week Freestyle” is one of my favorite songs due to the unique style that he brings to the table. Similar to Lupe Fiasco, or Chris Brown, Mykee Mike is multi-talented man; it’s not often that one comes across a man of color who so confidently:

  1. Serenades women by the sound of his voice and the melodies that follow.
  2. Spits verses with such a calm flow, yet at the same time makes you want to follow your grind.
  3. Can execute numbers one and two in a creative way.
  4. Can wear such a luxurious black jacket that both women and men marvel over.

Don’t Sleep! Wake up, and find your ears on Qloud 106!

#WestCoastWednesday SCF Beats

When you see a beautiful woman or a handsome man, what do you notice first? Their outfit? Smile? Eyes? How about when you listen to a song, whats the first thing you notice? The lyrics? Flow? Voice? Storyline? For me the answer is and has always been the beat. The start of where it all begins, the root of the tree, the mitochondria of the cell–the beat. The production of a song goes unnoticed by many, then there’s me who has a love for every single aspect of pop culture.  SCF Beats is a up and coming producer coming out of the West Coast’s most prized state, California. From making beats off of an iPod touch for fun, to producing some of the dopest tracks you will ever hear, SCF Beats continues to catch my ear with every upload. His style is a mix of old school and new school music; his music brings a new “swag” if you will, to modern day culture.  If you are a fan of instrumentals, or you think you could work with him on a dope project you should check out his work below!

#MusicChoiceMonday Jaye Newton

Your #mcm wears pink. He’s a real man, who just recently released an album entitled “Real Men Wear Pink”. I first came across Jaye Newton at a fashion show that was put on by a modeling team at Kennesaw State University. Newton is one of the most talented artists that I have come across thus far. The song that caught my attention by this young man is called “Salsa Witcha Mama” that he performed .  I guess you could say it was the genuine identity that caught my attention about this song–not to mention the two young women that ran down the awhile swag surfing with each other as he performed and interacted with the audience. Not only is Newton an amazing performer, but his caliber is higher than most of the “rappers” of our generation. While he represents the Eastside of Atlanta, his style reaches a  new height that is only touched by few.

Have you ever listened to a song that made you just want to grab someone’s hand and dance as if you’re in a ballroom? No? Probably because if you are reading this you’re either considered a millennial or a baby boomer so Salsa music or Waltz music are only played at events that you’re forced to attend. Me? I play Waltz music in my room every morning, while a young black man takes control of the beat and carries it on his back. “Waltz With Me” is a song that I highly recommend. I will be posting a playlist of my favorite songs within the next month. As I put you all on to the hidden artists of our generation please take into account that like yourself, these artists continue to push forward in order to live out their dreams. Jaye Newton will be performing on Thursday, October 19th at Kennesaw State University’s Campus Green. For more information on Jaye Newton feel free to follow his social media!

“Short and Simple”

Who am I? Kae Cole. The name will go a long way in a couple of years, but as for now the name “Kae Cole” holds weight in approximately three states. I am currently an undergraduate student living in the outskirts of one of our nations most prized cities –Atlanta. Being in a city such as Atlanta, I have been exposed to many different aspects of the same pop culture by digging into what people around me love to do. After awhile I begged the question, “What do I like to do?”. Write for fun. Music. Fashion. Food. Entertainment, etc. Earlier this week I had the opportunity of engaging in a conversation about pursuing what you love to do; whether it be a hobby or a career. SIDE NOTE: EVERY HOBBY CAN BE MADE INTO A CAREER. One of my friends said “If I’m not helping my friends become successful, am I really even successful?”. This quote alone inspired me to create a platform for success. Why not combine everything I like to do? But how Kae? By becoming the centre of our urban universe and bringing different vibes together. Underground West Coast meets the Underground East Coast meets the South meets the North. If you know of any work and you would like to submit someone to be featured, even yourself, please contact me. Too much beauty goes unseen, unheard, unspoken, and untouched, it’s time that I become the change I want to see. 🙂
